Happy New Year! Heading into our 10th year in print, we are excited to announce that, due to the continuing success of the magazine, we have decided to create an even bigger issue for 2020 giving you more content each month! We are also including the digital version free, with every print purchase – something I have wanted to do for a long time.

With the rising costs of print and the expenses of a growing business, we have resisted increasing our prices for the past four years but, in order to provide an improved product and quality service, we need to change the cover price by a dollar.

Good news! Monthly auto-pay plans will stay the same until canceled. Print Subscribers, visit My Account>Subscriber’s Members Area> Content, for more details on how to get your free digital issues going forward.

This has been a long time in the making and I am thrilled to present you with the first samples of LuxArchival. This white sanded paper is the brain-child of Alyona Nickelsen of BrushandPencil.com. She has spent the last four years creating this paper to be the perfect substrate for colored pencils. Test it out for yourself, learn more inside, then be among the first to order.

Before I dive into this issue I want to get right to our featured artist Steve White. It is so rare to find such an incredible artist that draws dinosaurs that I about jumped out of my seat when I saw his work. I hope you are as enthusiastic as I am!

Congratulations to all the winners in our Second Annual Colored Pencil Awards! Thank you to all the subscribers who took the time to nominate and vote for their favorites. Be sure to subscribe so your vote counts next time.

You will notice that our esteemed Q&A columnist Barb Sotiropoulos is absent. After contributing monthly for the past four years she required time to do some other projects. To get your fix, listen to the weekly colored pencil podcast as she guest hosts with John Middick at www.sharpenedartist.com. Also, show some love and support by picking up her new book The Best of Barb’s Q&A, available in our store. We are not sure what the future will hold but are appreciative of some of our past featured artists for sharing advice in this month’s question. Look for more answers from the experts in coming issues.

Take a tour of Wendy Layne’s new studio – it is sure to give you some great ideas on creating your perfect space. We also have the ever-popular Karen M. Berisford stopping in to give a quick lesson a beautiful peacock feather. In the gallery, we are showcasing the brilliant work of the winning artists in our Inktense contest & giveaway from Inktober.

Be sure to participate in this month’s Art Challenge, it is the first of the year and if you do all 12 by their deadline, you will earn a free digital subscription and a mention in next year’s issue. Look for a list of the 2019 winners soon. Thank you again to Jerry’s Artarama who continues to sponsor this event with $300 in eGift Certificates across 3 categories. If you completed all of 2019 challenges you have until 2/1/20 to email your Flickr link to contact@coloredpencilmag.com and claim your prize.

The first directory of colored pencil artists is now available! Download the COLORED PENCIL 2020 Look Book FREE or purchase the print at cost. Help us spread the news –  share the digital file with everyone and everywhere you can! www.coloredpencilmag.com/2020LookBook.pdf
