With this issue, we proudly mark the completion of 15 years of COLORED PENCIL Magazine! It’s hard to believe how far we’ve come, but here we are. This medium never seems to run out of inspiration, and I feel there’s still so much more to explore.
I first fell in love with colored pencils as a teenager in the 1980s, and it’s been such an honor to share the work of artists who continue to push this medium to its limits. I never tire of showing people the magazine, and seeing their disbelief when they realize what’s possible with colored pencils. It’s been a privilege to play even a small role in advancing and celebrating this medium with you all.
A heartfelt thank-you goes out to all our contributors, who have shared their tips, techniques, and talents through the pages of this magazine, helping us all to learn and grow. I’m also deeply grateful to all our sponsors for their continued support over the years, and to our readers and subscribers like you, whose enthusiasm keeps this community thriving.
In this Winter issue, we’re thrilled to feature two incredible artists. Many of you already know and love Lisa Ann Watkins, a favorite instructor in this medium for years. Not only will you get to know her better through her feature article, but she’s also sharing a wonderful polar bear workshop! We’re equally excited to spotlight our cover artist, Matt Atkinson, whose breathtaking work and inspiring story you won’t want to miss.
We’re also delighted to welcome back Lisa Clough, who offers insight on why value is so essential in your artwork, alongside other great contributions from our talented writers. Don’t miss the 2025 Art Competition winners, and a special thank-you to our sponsors – Blick Art Materials, Caran d’Ache, and Legion Paper, for their generous support. Finally, be sure to browse our Holiday Gift Guide for some great ideas from the brands you love.
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
