I don’t think I can write this without acknowledging the crazy times we are living in. I hope you are all safe and doing well. Please know that you are on our minds and hearts daily. I am an optimist and am looking forward to hearing all the stories of growth and productivity during this time.

We are happy to provide you another month of content from your amazing peers to take your mind off pressing matters and daily stress, so let’s jump in!

It only takes one look at our cover to know that Spring is here and with it, a new round of art shows and competitions. (Thank goodness for online submissions.) The previous two winners of our big Annual Art Competition check in to give some advice on how to get the judge’s attention. We are now open to submissions for our 2020 competition so if you are a subscriber, you get one free entry and a chance to win some incredible prizes from Caran d’Ache, Legion Paper, and Blick Art Materials. Winners will be selected by the February 2019 Featured Artist, Soomin Jung Remmler.

To continue with our art show theme, France Bauduin, who has won many awards with her amazing wildlife art, gives you tips on using photos of animals to come in first place by making them your own.

The Draw Any Animal Book contains tons of critters just waiting to be brought to life. Sample this 100-year-old classic collection by French artist Robert Lambry. One lucky subscriber will be selected to win it at the end of the month.

Nick Edgar is not only a beekeeper but an amazing artist. He hosts his first workshop with us by taking you step-by-step on drawing a wonderful little honey bee on sanded paper. More bugs to follow in the Bee-utiful Bugs article by Courtney Haughn. We found her fun & creative cut-out entomology pieces and are happy to have her come and share them with you.

I am so in love with the whimsical works of Lea Embeli. Join our conversation, to learn more about this children’s book illustrator. Of course, we are super excited to showcase another illustrator for our featured artist, Sylvie Daigneault. You will quickly see that she is a wonderful writer, as well as an incredibly talented artist, who’s colorful details are mesmerizing.

In the Spotlight this month are the new Cezanne Professional Watercolor Pencils. Not only does a sample come in the USA print issue, but Creative Mark is giving away four sets of these along with their brand new 120 Premium Colored Pencil sets! Learn more at www.coloredpencilmag.com/giveaways.

Another new item is coming your way. Our exclusive Grizaye Painting Kit – The Rose Collection. This kit was created to help you focus on your shading and color selections by providing you a monotone underpainting on Stonehenge paper, so you can quickly get to work, with amazing results! We can’t wait for you to try it and see how much fun it really is, so we are providing this at the lowest price we can, with an option to include a tin set of Prismacolor Premium Botanical Colored Pencil set for just $10 more. www.coloredpencilmag.com/store
