This is the month of romance, so we are pleased to begin with Christina Iotti’s Tulips and Lace tutorial demonstrating how to create that beautiful layered look. We also end with lace in our February Art Challenge, incorporating lace under a box of chocolates. Use what you learn and enter the contest by 3/11.

Speaking of the Art Challenge, we want to thank the 16 artists who completed all twelve of the 2017 Art Challenges, earning themselves a 1-year digital subscription. Together they created 192 entries – enjoy viewing a small sample of their hard work.

Next up, in Barb Sotiropoulos’s Q&A, learn about using a limited palette. We then continue our new Workshop Series with a gorgeous butterfly created by master instructor Mark Menendez. Use the links on the page to download everything you need to follow along.

We love it when you interact with us. Recently, artists shared their first and last images of 2017 with us on Facebook. It was so much fun to see the progress and know it will inspire you to work hard this year! Participate in discussions and posts at: www.facebook.com/coloredpencilmagazine.

The Art Gear Guide will tell you everything you need to know about the new water soluble Spectrum Noir ColourTint colored pencils in this month’s review.

Our last article embodies the spirit of Valentine’s Day with a lovely image and demonstration of colored pencil on birch panel by Vic Hollins. We had the pleasure of meeting her in person at Art of the Carolinas, where she was surrounded by artists wanting to know more – including us!

Finally, we want to introduce you to our gifted featured artist, Claire Milligan. She has such a clean and polished style to her animal artwork that you’ll want to read about her tools of the trade, pet portraiture, and more.

Win the new book Mastering Colored Pencil by Lisa Dinhofer just by signing up for our Newsletter by February 28, when we will randomly select one winner. We love to give away special prizes to those on our list, so join it here: www.coloredpencilmag.com/signup.

As mentioned last month, we recently launched our new website featuring subscriber accounts. We emailed invitations for subscribers to access their new accounts to find their downloads, exclusive content, discounts, and more. I know many of you struggled to get connected, and I want to apologize for our clumsy transition. The website software is new to us too, and we are working hard to make important improvements as we keep growing at such a fast rate.

Thank you for your patience and for riding out the bumps with us. We so appreciate the sweet letters of support, enthusiasm, and kind words!
